The ICA is the national color organization in Belgium, equivalent to the ISCC in the US.  The Symposium Committee seeks high-quality papers describing original, groundbreaking research, methods, experiments, projects or likewise in the field of colour. Topics include all interdisciplinary approaches and applications concerning colour, from philosophy to physics, from language to environment, from science to art, from theory to practice, from industry to education etc.

We invite you to submit your abstract for one of these options:

    • during a 30 minute presentation
    • as a poster presentation

Note that the language of the symposium is English.

Full details are on the Symposium page.

The CIE has released the latest edition of Publication 15 Colorimetry. Quoting from the official press release:

This publication provides the recommendations of the CIE concerning colorimetry. Specifically, it includes the use of the standard colorimetric observers and standard illuminants, the reference standard for reflectance, the illuminating and viewing conditions, the calculation of tristimulus values, chromaticity coordinates, colour space coordinates and colour differences and various other colorimetric practices and formulae.

As a new feature, the publication also includes further details of advanced colorimetry, including colour appearance models, and new findings on cone-fundamental-based tristimulus functions, with appropriate references to other CIE publications. Additionally, new illuminants for different LED types are introduced.

Other details can be found at the CIE website. The publication can be purchased from the CIE by visiting their web shop

We have assembled all of the slides from the various authors. These are available here. Note that for many good reasons, not all presenters are able to contribute their slides.

These are the only files we have. If you are looking for a specific talk that is not here, please contact that author directly.

We are very grateful to those folks who are able to share this content!

Color Factory is coming to New York City after a successful run in San Francisco. What is Color Factory? It is a little difficult to describe! Here is the text from their About page:

Color Factory is a collaborative interactive exhibit that debuted in San Francisco in August 2017. What was intended as a month-long run unexpectedly flourished as a celebration of color and creativity that lasted for another eight sold-out months.

This August, a whole new palette is coming to New York City in SoHo’s Hudson Square neighborhood. In 20,000 square feet, we will feature brand-new participatory installations of colors we’ve collected around the city— hues that invite curiosity, discovery and play. Some of our favorite artists, creatives, designers and makers are teaming up with us to tell their unique color stories and engage all of your senses in unexpected ways.

We hope that the palette and projects offered within Color Factory will connect you to the colorful moments around New York and in your own daily life.

View all the details on their website.

Please register for Mark Fairchild - Color Appearance, Color Order, & Other Color Systems on Sep 18, 2018 2:00 PM EDT at:

How do color systems work? How do they vary? Are Munsell and Pantone doing the same thing? This tutorial will examine the mathematical description of color appearance and then explore how appearance is encoded in color order systems such as the Munsell Book of Color, the Natural Color System, and the OSA-UCS. It will also explore the differences between color appearance systems such as these and other systems that are used to name, specify, and communicate colors. We will end with a short update on recent progress in the understanding of human color vision for color appearance specification.

Mark D. Fairchild is Professor and Founding Head of the Integrated Sciences Academy in RIT’s College of Science and Director of the Program of Color Science and Munsell Color Science Laboratory. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Imaging Science from R.I.T. and Ph.D. in Vision Science from the University of Rochester. Mark was presented with the 1995 Bartleson Award by the Colour Group (Great Britain) and the 2002 Macbeth Award by the Inter-Society Color Council for his works in color appearance and color science. He is a Fellow of the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) and the Optical Society of America. Mark was presented with the Davies Medal by the Royal Photographic Society for contributions to photography. He received the 2008 IS&T Raymond C. Bowman award for excellence in education.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
