Bill Fischer, Color Design Researcher and Educator

Color, Its Impact on the Visually Impaired, and How to Address it with Universal Design

This eye-opening presentation will provide an overview of how color-design can often limit inclusive access to media, products, and careers, for persons with visual impairments. And, it will explain how that can be avoided by implementing universal design methodologies. Up to 25% of the population will experience visual impairment in their lifetime. These include color-blindness, low-vision, photophobia, and scotopic sensitivity syndrome. Companies, institutions, and organizations should be aware of the opportunities that designing for these populations present; increased inclusion and larger market shares are within reach.

Bio

Bill Fischer is a professor & founder of the Digital Art & Design program at Kendall College of Art and Design, and executive producer for The EPIC Project (a media production and research initiative), as well as author of the I-See-U blueprint for creating Inclusive, Socio-Emotional, Entertaining, and Universal media (i-see-u.info).
